Growing up in Waynesville, North Carolina, Beth Ammons learned sewing, crafting, and painting from inspiring local artists. Spending time playing and exploring outdoors cultivated Beth’s love for both art and nature which eventually led her to pursue degrees in Biology and Art at Wake Forest University, followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts University.
Beth is a National Board Certified Art Teacher, and has taught art, science, and gifted enrichment to students across Boston, Atlanta, and Chicago. In 2023, she returned to the mountains of North Carolina, where she now teaches art at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary School.
In her own art, Beth uses a variety of 2-D mediums to illustrate her memories and adventures from travel and nature.
“What I love most about teaching art is the opportunity to combine all of my passions in fun projects kids will remember. Creative projects in school inspired my own love for learning, and I hope my students have a similar experience.
When the modern world feels overwhelming, I reconnect with the place my family has called home for generations. I seek out new trails, explore forests, and climb some of the highest peaks in the Smokies. Being surrounded by nature brings me peace and a sense of comfort in the mountains I know so well. My artwork reflects this solitude and serenity, capturing the calm that these places bring me. I hope viewers can experience that same peace when they engage with my paintings.”
